It’s back for 2018.  Last year saw over 10,000 people attend this amazing FREE event. The theme this year will be commemorating the end of WW1. See poster for details of attractions

Find out about Funding

Thanks to National Lottery players funding is still available for community groups, schools, churches and other not-for-profit groups to celebrate their areas’ heritage. Groups can also apply for a grant to learn about the First World War 100 years after the guns fell silent on 11 November 2018. If your group has an idea and are interested in funding then join HLF for a drop in session between 2-6pm Tuesday 22 May at Butt Lane Community Centre.

First World War Remembered

To coincide with the centenary of The Battle of Passchendaele,  Kidsgrove Writers’ Group (KWG) are hosting an exhibition of photographs, posters, and personal memorabilia from WW1, together with paintings from local schoolchildren.

Doors open approx 9.30 am – FREE ADMISSION

Confirmed Programme times will be as follows:-

10.00 am – Opening and Welcome

10.15 am – Kidsgrove and WW1 – talk by Philip Leese

10.45 am – Poetry & Prose readings by Kidsgrove Writers’ Group

11.30 am – Music of the era interspersed by readings of poems by WW1 poet Wilfred Owen

Noon – Lunch break – time to view the exhibited items and to purchase drinks, and food from the BBQ

2.00 pm – Readings by the general public welcomed, and further readings from Kidsgrove Writers’ group

3.30 pm – Community singing of songs from the era, accompanied by Margaret Jenks

4.30 pm – Last opportunity to view the exhibited items and writings and artwork

5.00 pm – Thank you – Exhibition closes

(Times subject to change on the day if some parts run over)

Refreshments will be on sale during the two-hour lunch break, with opportunity to view the exhibits.

Military Artwork for Charities (the founder of which – Paul J. Ballard – has allowed us to use a copy of his painting to advertise this event).

Create your own unique hand poppy to add to the display in the library to commemorate soldiers lost in two world wars. Drop in sessions run throughout October in Kidsgrove and Talke libraries. Call Kidsgrove Library on 01782 782445 for more information.
